The Paleontological Museum is an opportunity to plunge into the world of distant ancestors, to find out what life was like several millennia ago. Visitors are usually most impressed by the huge skeletons of dinosaurs, but exploring the rest of the exhibit is an exciting adventure for adults and children alike.

Museum them. Yu. A. Orlova was opened in 1937 at the Paleontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and still remains a part of it. Today it is one of the largest natural history museums in the world; more than 5,000 exhibits are stored in its funds. The very first of them were part of the collection of the Kunstkamera of Peter I.

The unusual building of the museum, erected especially for him in the 70s, resembles a medieval fortress with towers, walls and an inner courtyard. At the same time, the design is modern: simple shapes and clear lines in combination with red brick look laconic and strict. The museum has been located here since 1987.

The total area of the exhibition space is about 5 thousand square meters, it is divided into 4 parts and occupies 6 halls. The exposition clearly demonstrates the evolution of the organic world of the Earth. The introductory hall tells about paleontology in general, the second introduces the very first inhabitants of the Earth, the third - with the geology of the Moscow region. In the 4th, the most ancient vertebrates are represented, the 5th is dedicated to the Mesozoic, and the last, 6th - to the Cenozoic mammals.
