The estate is directly related to the writer - here he spent the winter with his family from 1882 to 1901 (for the summer everyone left for Yasnaya Polyana). Due to the fact that the idea of creating a Tolstoy museum was born immediately after his death, the situation after long ordeals was preserved - and man-made rugs and bedspreads connected by Sofia Andreevna, and a porcelain service, transparent to the light, and children's toys, and even a bearskin, from which, in fact, is long overdue to get rid of. Adjacent to the house is a beautiful garden with lime trees, jasmine, benches and a cat.

In this estate, Tolstoy spent the winter with his family from 1882 to 1901 (for the summer everyone left for Yasnaya Polyana). In the Khamovniki House, the writer created about a hundred works, including "The Death of Ivan Ilyich", "The Kreutzer Sonata", the novel "Sunday", the plays "The Fruits of Enlightenment", "The Power of Darkness", "Living Corpse".

Today the Leo Tolstoy Museum is a unique repository of Leo Tolstoy's manuscript heritage and materials related to the life and work of the writer. It houses over 400,000 items related to Tolstoy and Tolstoy. The world famous scientific center for the study of the creative heritage of L.N. Tolstoy operates here. Finally, the GMT is the largest scientific and educational institution. It includes an extensive literary exposition in a mansion on Prechistenka, a memorial estate of Leo Tolstoy in Khamovniki, a Tolstoy center at 12 Pyatnitskaya and branches of the State Museum of Technology "Memorial in memory of Leo Tolstoy in Astapov" and the Cultural Center.
