Sochi is not only the main resort of Russia on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus and a modern center for alpine skiing, but also a large seaport. The importance of the city as a port has always been great, therefore, the country's southern sea gates should have had a "face" - the Maritime Station corresponding to the time. The decision to build a new building for the port of Sochi was made by Stalin in the last years of his leadership of the country. That is why the development of the project was entrusted to KS Alabyan, a recognized classic of the Stalinist Empire style.

The construction was completed already under Khrushchev, nevertheless, it is rightly considered a monument of Stalinist architecture. The sea terminal was opened in 1955, the second author of the project, along with KS Alabyan, was LB Karlik.

Today the station is an architectural monument of federal significance. The main building has two floors; there is also a two-story gallery in the shape of the letter G. adjacent to it. In the center of the building is its architectural dominant - a tower with a spire made of polished stainless steel. The height of the tower is 71 meters. It is divided into three tiers with sculptural figures representing the four seasons and the four cardinal points. Their author is the famous sculptor Ingal. Marine Passenger Terminal in Sochi

In front of the building of the Marine Station there is another sculpture, this time of the goddess of navigation. It is the center of the fountain installed in the station square.

The station is located in the center of the city, from which the boulevard begins, which runs along the Black Sea embankment. From the railway station to the Morskiy - 10-15 minutes on foot. From here, pleasure boats go, on which you can take a walk along the sea.

International passenger traffic is carried out through the port of Sochi to Georgia - Batumi, Abkhazia - Gagra, Turkey - Trabzon.

The Marine Terminal is also known for the fact that it was here, on the main deep-water berth for cruise ships, that an episode of one of the most popular Soviet comedies by Leonid Gaidai "The Diamond Hand" was filmed - the scene of Semyon Semenovich Gorbunkov's farewell to his family before his departure on a cruise on the liner "Mikhail Svetlov ".
