Biysk Museum of Local Lore, founded in 1920, reveals many secrets of this crossroads of ethnic groups, trade routes and religions. What to see

In the section of the ancient history of Altai, visitors can see a collection of rock paintings, a sarcophagus from a Scythian barrow and a steel sword of the leader. Next to a detailed model of the Biysk fortress, chain mail, battle axes and a cast-iron cannon are displayed along with a pile of cannonballs.

A small statuette of Hercules with a lion's skin draped over his shoulders testifies to trade relations between Altai and the Mediterranean for several centuries BC.

A very interesting collection of Chinese porcelain, which was carried by Biysk merchants along the Chuysky tract. Flowers, birds, dragons are painted with great skill on vases, dishes, teapots. Objects of the Lamaist cult, a branch of Buddhism widespread in Mongolia, also came to Russia in the same way.
