One can argue long and hard about the place of Zurab Tsereteli in contemporary monumental art. But the fact that this personality is bright and extraordinary is recognized by both fans and opponents of the Master. Tsereteli's richest creative career, like a mirror, reflects the complex and controversial era of the second half of the 20th century.

The Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery in Moscow is a place that provides an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the famous sculptor and painter. Many of his works are collected within these walls. The exhibition complex often hosts national and international exhibitions dedicated to the visual arts, design and architecture.

History

The Dolgorukov's House, which, in fact, houses the Tsereteli Gallery, is one of the best examples of the era of classicism in Moscow. Its construction began in 1788.at that time it was a typical urban manor house, made in the classical style and consisting of a main house with a monumental antique portico, side buildings and a grand courtyard. In 1795, the house was purchased by the Dolgorukov princes, who later became its owners for more than half a century. Russian Traditions

The palace was rebuilt many times. So during the restoration of the building from the fire of 1812, the street facade was modified. The architecture of the palace acquired the features of the Empire style.

In 1918-1998, the Dolgorukov's house, like other nearby buildings, was occupied by the War Department. By the end of the 80s, the palace fell into decay: its halls were divided into rooms, the stairs are rebuilt. Over the years, most of the finishing elements have been lost. But at the turn of the millennium, the palace was restored to its former splendor.

What To See

Today the Gallery has 2 permanent exhibitions. One of them is a collection of copies of monuments of antique sculpture, created according to the samples of the Pushkin Museum in, Pushkin. The antique hall with a vaulted ceiling and niches in which works of art are located resembles a typical Italian courtyard, dating back to the times of the great founders of classical plastic art.

The second permanent collection is a collection of works (sculpture, painting, graphics, enamel) of the founder of the gallery, the legendary Zurab Tsereteli. Reliefs from the cycle of works "My Contemporaries" are of great artistic value.

The light atrium hall attracts constant b interest, the main "Stars" of which are gigantic sculptures and bronze bas-reliefs on biblical themes.

The most famous work of the Master, which can be seen in his Gallery, is the composition "Apple" located in the Hall of knowledge of Good and Evil. The collection includes sculptures of Princess Diana and Charlie Chaplin, as well as numerous easel paintings. Cathedral Of Archangel in Moscow City Russia
