Kazan has long deservedly been called the third capital of Russia. In this city with more than a Thousand Years of history two different people - Russian and Tatars - coexist in an amazing way. Admiring the oriental flavor of mosques and white-stone orthodox churches, seeing the inscriptions in the metro in two languages and tasting hearty Tatar sweets or Russian cuisine, you can enjoy the harmonious interpenetration of two cultures in this city.

Kazan kremlin:

The unique and diverse ensemble of the Kazan kremlin was formed from the 16th to 19th centuries. And to this day it is the historical, cultural and religious center of the city. It is in it that one of the main symbols of kazan is located the syuyumbike tower, about which many romantic and mystical legends have been written. according to one of them the last queen of ancient kazan khanate once rushed down from it after is conquest by the Russina tsar ivan the terribke in 1552. And the townspeople also beleive that if you touch the tower and make a wish, it will certainly comes true. Syuyumbike is a falling tower, it is deflected from the vertical by 1.8 meters.

Also in the kazan kremlin, the fortress walls of the 16th century with beautiful towers in different styles as well as administrative buildings are well preserved. The luxurious governor's palace now houses and residence of the president of the republic of Tatarstan, other premises are given to museum of the history of statehood of Tatarsan dedicated to the history of the republic from ancient times to the present day, is especially interesting. Also in 1974, burials of ancient rulers were found on the territory of the kremlin, which are now on diplay in the mausoleum of the Kazan khans.

In the Kremlin, churches of two official religions peacefully coexist - the Christian cathedral of the Annunciation (the oldest building in Kazan) and the transfiguration monastery, as well as the kul-sharif mosque founded in 1996, with graceful 55 meter high minarets and a beautiful interior. Relaxing after sightseeing you can admire the Kazanka river from the observation deck.

Old Tatar settlement:

The historical part of the city with preserved urban buildings of the 18th-19th centuries in the traditional Tatar style, located between the bulak canak the nizhny kaban lake in the center of kazan. Many houses in the Old Tatar sloboda used to belong to prominent people of the city, Here, like nowhere else, the spirit of old Kazan has been preserved, and you can also try national Tatar dishes. Most of the historical buildings are located on the central street of the district- Tukaya street, as well as on the pedestrian street kayum Nasyri.

Particularly noteworthy is the house of shamil on tukay street, stylized as a medieval castle. Now it houses the museum of the poet Gabdulla Tukai, the expostion of which tells about the milestones in the life of the most important poet for the Tartar people, as well as about the cultural life of Kazan in the 19th - 20th centuries. Bauman street:

The main tourist and pedestrain artery of the city with many resturants, stalls of street artists, as well as funny and curious monuments and fountains, with which both tourists and locals love to take pictures.

So, among many other characters, the monument on Bauman street was awarded... the carriage of the Russian Empress catherine II and the fat imposing "Kazan cat", which became another unspoken symbol of the city(and all because once Empress catherine II beleived in the remarkable talents of kazan cats in catching mice and ordered 30 pieces from kazan to keep the Hermitage clean). The frog and doves fountains are amusing and expressive and under the clock in the oriental style, decorated with Arabic script, lovers love to meet.

The street is also remarkable for its historical sights - the Epiphany cathedral in the Russian Baroque style is located on it. The great Russian opera singer Fyodor chaliapin was once baptized in it, and there as a young man, he sang for some time in the church choir. In memory of this, a monument of chaliapin was erected near church, But even more than the church itself is known for its bell tower, standing seperately and built in the old Russian style of red brick. The whimsical ligature of ornaments that adorn the walls of the bell tower and the lightness and delicacy of the entire building make it one of the most beautiful and photogenic in the whole city. It houses a small concert hall dedicated to the memory of chaliapin. Theatergoers should also pay attention to the V.I.Kachalov Bolshoi Drama Tgeater - one of the leading theaters in Kazan.

Gournmets should definitely look into the "House of Tatar Cookery"at 31/12, where they can taste traditional Tatar sweets.

Fountains on the Bulak River and Lake Nizhny Kaban:

There are many fountains in kazan that attract attention, of not by their originality, then by their scale. For example, a cascade of 22 fountains located on the Bulak River reaches a length of 1490 meters and is longest in the world. In the evening, at all fountains are illuminated with different colors.

Walking along the embankment of the river, you can continue admiring the works of water at on Lake Nizhniy kaban-there is the tallest fountain in the city on it, the jets of which rise to a height of 50 meters. And in front of the State Academic Theatre named after Galiaskar Kamal, which is  also on the shore of this lake, there is one of the largest musical fountains in the city, the jets of which dance to the works of both Tatar classics and young composers. His performances attract many spectators and continue until 22:00.

Museum of Socialist Life:

Growing out of a home collection, this museum has become one of the most popular in the city. It contains many items that were in every Soviet home in the 1970s-1980s. First of all, these are clothes household appliances, posters, toys, badges and other household items. Many exhibits can be touched and even measured. If course, the most interesting thing in this museum is for those who feel nostalgia for Soviet childhood. If you're lucky, you can meet its owner in the museum, who will gladly give you a guided tour.

10:00-20:00 seven days a week. The entrance ticket is 250 rubles.

Peter and Paul cathedral:

One of the most beautiful cathedrals of the 18th century in the style of Russian baroque, not only in Kazan, but in all of Russia, which was visited by all the famous guests of Kazan, including the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. The light brown walls of the cathedral are decorated with blue frescoes, and this combination, which is more typical for the buildings of Central Asia, looks very festive and unusual. Many people compare it to... gingerbread! The impressive seven-tiered gilded iconostasis has been preserved inside. And from the entrance to the Cathedral, a beautiful panorama of the rooftops in the city center opens.

Kazanka River embankment:

Another place extremely popular with couples and cyclists. The first are attracted here by the beautiful view of the river, and the second - by the ideal smoothness of the road surface. In winter, an ice rink opens on the embankment, as well as Christmas Market (which, unfortunately, is not easy to get to due to the long lines). On the embankment is one of the most controversial modern buildings in kazan-the electric Palace of farmers, built in 2010. Many are not satisfied with the excessive splendor of his style, but there are also many who sympathize with the building.

Kazan University:

One of the oldest universities in Russia, graduates(or listeners of lectures) were many outstanding  people of the country, including the great mathematician nikolai lobachevsky(who then taught at university for 40 years and was its rector). Lev Tolstoy and Vladimir lenin listened to lectures here (however, the latter was expelled just 3 months after admission for participating in student riots).

The complex of buildings of the XIX-XX centuries forms a whole student town located in the area of kremlevskaya Street. You can come here to admire the buildings in the style of Russian classicism and feel the energy of student life.

You can learn more about the great graduates of this educational institution in the museum of the history of kazan University. There is only one room, the exposition contains many photographs and documents, but there is also ancient scientific equipment. Visitors say that it is homelike here.

National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan:

The main museum of local lore in kazan with an extensive, but somewhat chaotic exposition: for example, the carriage of Catherine II and a stuffed animal of a huge beluga get along well. However, the collection of national costumes and works of applied art has been compiled with great love and knowledge.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday - from 10:00 to 18:00, ticket office until 17:00, on Thursday from 13:00 to 21:00, ticket office until 20:00. Friday from 10:00 to 17:00, ticket office until 16:00. Monday is a day off.

Ticket Price :  50-150 rubles, depending on the exposure.

Temple of all religions:

It can be safely called one of the most multicultural buildings in the world. And one of the most unusual looking. More than 20 years ago, Ildar khanov, a shocking sculptor and poet from the village of Maloye Arakcheevo near Kazan (some fans of his talent also considered khanov still and a healer). The minarets of the mosque, the dome of Orthodox Church, the roof of the Chinese pagoda - the combination of the incongruous looks somewhat lurid, but mesmerizing.

Of course, no religious services are held in the temple of all religions(yes, it would be difficult), but the very existence of such a building, according to the author's idea, symbolizes the equality of all cultures. The yellow was never finished - Ildar Khanov built it with his own money and donations from enthusiastic for more than 20 years and died before the construction was completed. Now his work continues, but very slowly, however, various concerts and recitals are regularly held in the temple of all Religions. On other days, the entrance is not possible for visitors - you can only inspect the buildings from the outside.

You can get there by train - you need to go to the station "Old Arakchino" (about 11 mintues from the main station of Kazan, then walk). You can also take buses No. 2 and 45 to the stop "Village Old Arakchino" (20-30 minutes from the city center, depending on the traffic situation).
